The cups are non-stick coated though better if you use some cooking spray then the egg will fall right out. The cup handle, a U-shape, is very easy to handle even when wearing a glove pot holder; to place the egg on the plate. And the U-shape is a rod and is continuous around the cup so there is nothing to break long term. At the time of my purchase no one mentioned the pot handle. The handle is stainless steel, hollow and riveted to the pot. Though hollow it does not bend or flex in the least. The glass lid has a small, metal re-inforced hole in the top to release steam pressure. And the diameter is common as I'm using the lid on other pots too. I'm a novice cooking person and this poacher is very easy to use.
